SWEDISH THREADS

Fashion Across Disciplines

Introduction

Swedish Threads is an 8-week interdisciplinary program that brings together the next generation of fashion designers, sustainability experts and business strategists.

Based on the corners of the ASFB Triangle as shown above, Swedish Threads is initiated by the ASFB and executed in collaboration with Beckmans College of Design, Stockholm University, and Stockholm School of Economics. Designed to bridge the gap between creativity, sustainability and commerce, the program ensures that Swedish fashion remains at the forefront of global innovation.

Through real-world challenges, mentorship from industry leaders, and hands-on collaboration, students will gain unique insights into the future of fashion – and help shape it.

Why Swedish Threads?

Fashion is experiencing an industry wide shift due to regulatory and environmental challenges. The industry faces increasing demands for sustainability, innovation, and commercial viability to work together.

Designers need business acumen and deep understanding of what real sustainability is.

Entrepreneurs need creative and sustainability fluency to manoeuvre new challenges.

Sustainability experts need to understand the challenges of creating and selling a profitable product to embed solutions within this process.

Swedish Threads was created to bridge these silos. By uniting students from different disciplines, we cultivate the kind of collaborative thinking that will be required to push Swedish fashion forward. This is about learning by doing, experimenting with new models, and creating solutions that have real-world relevance.

How the ASFB Brings It Together

The ASFB is uniquely positioned to bring academia, industry and policy together. As the industry body representing Sweden’s most influential fashion brands, the ASFB ensures that Swedish Threads is grounded in real-world relevance and industry needs.

Cross-Sector Collaboration

We act as the bridge between fashion, business, and sustainability, ensuring that every discipline is fully integrated into the process.

Where and How You'll Collaborate

To support collaboration outside the classroom, students will have access to the Post Office in Marievik after school hours.

This dedicated space provides a central hub for teams to meet, refine their concepts, and push their ideas further in a creative, hands-on environment.

900sqm large, it will be the spot for many interesting events this semester. The space is being prepared and is administrated by Common Values United and Unifrom in collaboration with The ASFB. It will also house cutting edge freelancers and artists that will enrich your experience and networking during your 8 weeks in the Swedish Threads program.

Outside of School Hours

Swedish Threads takes place outside of school hours and is voluntarily applied to by students from eligible schools and classes. The time you dedicate depends on your ambition and how far you want to push your ideas to disrupt the industry with fellow students from the other schools.

In future editions, Swedish Threads may be integrated into school curricula, allowing participants to earn academic credits for their work.

Group Make-Up

To ensure a balanced and interdisciplinary experience, each group will consist of up to four members, with representation from each of the collaborating schools — Beckmans College of Design, Stockholm University, and Stockholm School of Economics.

This approach is designed to blend design, business, and sustainability expertise in every team, encouraging diverse perspectives and solutions.

Group formation will be carefully coordinated with professors to maintain an even distribution of disciplines, giving you the opportunity to collaborate closely with students from different fields.

Goal – An Economically & Sustainably Viable Fashion Industry

Final Event & Key Dates

At Soho House Stockholm, Swedish Threads culminates in a final showcase where student teams present their concepts to industry leaders, brand representatives, and key decision-makers.

This event brings talent and industry together, creating opportunities for collaboration, exposure, and real-world impact. The goal is to ensure that every project gets the recognition and refinement it deserves.

Some of these ideas could have the potential to move beyond the classroom and presentation – perhaps even attracting the attention of brands, investors, or collaborators ready to help bring them to life.

Your Presentations

Your team’s final concept, developed over eight weeks of interdisciplinary collaboration. This could take the form of a business model, a supply chain innovation, or a product designed for disruptive impact — all with a focus on solving real-world challenges in fashion, business, and sustainability.

Your presentation should clearly communicate the idea, its viability, and its potential industry impact.

Your Audience

Industry leaders, brand representatives, and key decision-makers from fashion, business, and sustainability sectors. A panel of experts will provide critical feedback, offering insights to refine and strengthen your concept.

Possible Outcomes

Presenting at Swedish Threads is more than just an academic exercise — it’s an opportunity to connect with the industry, gain exposure, and open doors to future opportunities. Strong concepts may lead to mentorship, collaboration, job offers, internships, or even investment from industry leaders interested in bringing disruptive ideas to life.

The connections you make here could be the first step in turning your vision into reality.

Together, these elements give you a unique opportunity to refine your concept, connect with industry leaders, and position yourself for future opportunities.
